The Malawi National Commission for UNESCO (MNCU) is pleased to inform all stakeholders in the arts, culture, and creative sectors that UNESCO has officially launched the 17th call for funding applications under the International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD). This funding opportunity is open to projects that aim to strengthen Malawi’s cultural and creative industries by promoting innovation, diversity, and sustainable growth, in line with the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. Applicants are encouraged to submit projects that:
    •  The implementation and /or elaboration of policies and measures that have a direct, structural impact on the creation, production, distribution and access to a diversity of cultural goods and services, and/or
    • The strengthening of capacities in public institutions and civil society organizations to support viable local and regional cultural industries and markets.

Eligible applicants include Malawian public institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and international NGOs registered in countries that are Parties to the 2005 Convention. Since its establishment, the IFCD has supported numerous initiatives across developing countries, contributing to stronger cultural policies, improved market access, and increased participation in cultural life. This presents a valuable opportunity for Malawian institutions and organizations to access international funding and contribute to the growth of the country’s creative economy. The call for applications opened on 23 March 2026 and will close on 6 May 2026 at 12:00 noon (Paris time). Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to prepare and submit their proposals before the deadline.
