Malawi joins the rest of the world every year to commemorate the International Literacy Day on 8th September.

The 2017 celebration theme was “Literacy in a Digital World”.  The national event to commemorate the day took place in Neno district According to data collected by the National Centre for Literacy and Adult Education (NCLAE) Neno is one of the districts with very high illiteracy rate in Malawi. The Bridge Project supported by the South Korea National Commission for UNESCO (KNCU)  took part in the commemorative event.  The Bridge project showcased the work that is being done in three Community Learning Centres (CLCs) of Namiyango (in Bangwe, Blantyre), Naphini (in Zomba) and Mwera (in Lilongwe).  In these CLCs, communities are supported to implement integrated education programmes in early childhood development, after-school-class lessons for primary school learners, technical and vocational skills training, educational support to learners with disabilities and adult literacy classes.
